My Story- The Beginning of the Journey to Recovery.

Okay, let’s see. Where’d we leave off last time we spoke? Oh yes, my unlikely recovery

beginning in my luxurious hospital bed. Now again, my memory is a little hazy at this point. Can you blame me? I just had my brain cut open and stitched back together. From what I can

remember, the hardest part was holding my eyes open to start out. When I say that I’m not

talking about the trouble holding your eyes open after a sleepless night either. I’m talking about trouble as if your eyelids weigh over a thousand pounds each and the light feels like scorching fire burning your soul out through your eyeballs. I just want you to try and imagine how that180-degree flip could even remotely feel. I was on top of the world and then I’m in that bed not even able to comprehend what just happened to me.

This feeling and unfortunately newly found reality is the exact reason why I’m writing

these posts and beginning my journey to hopefully help people going through similar

circumstances. My goal is not to glorify my story, but I want to give those who need help the

amounts of knowledge or experience I’ve gained over my years of recovery to aid them through their traumatic experiences.

Wait hold on. I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s go back to the story. I neglected some crucial information regarding my immediate recovery post brain surgery. I was put on a

ventilator for the following three days after being admitted to the ICU. My body was facing the hardest battle I could have ever imagined. It was the fight to stay alive.

Due to some complications involved with the installment of my feeding tube leading to a potential onset to pneumonia, I remained in the ICU for a long two weeks. My only form of

communication with my family, loved ones, and hospital staff was using my fingers on my right hand to gesture yes or no. I fought through my initial war with recovery at the hospital for approximately 21 days. Then came moving day and it was time for me to start rehab to get my strength, mobility, and functionality back.
